Icons of the Kingdom
My interest in plants began when, thanks to photography, I began to observe, which by definition means to look carefully, examine, scrutinize.
Observing is what many people don't do when faced with a cauliflower or a wilted flower. Observing therefore requires attention; attention arises from interest. Who could ever be interested in a wilted flower? Speaking exclusively in terms of shape and structure, a wilted flower is as good as a fresh one if not better. Indeed, upon closer inspection, the contortions the flower and its leaves assume are far more original and certainly impossible to reproduce even by the greatest sculptor. I photograph the plant kingdom to share my wonder, to encourage others not only to look but to observe, hoping that this will foster curiosity, respect, and a greater understanding of the wonders that surround us.
